If so, what program do you use I assume you're happy with it, if you're using it. Not really at a point where this is critical information, and at my level the cost savings in material due to efficient nesting wouldn't justify the expense of a commercial nesting program. I'm just thinking ahead, and mostly curious.

Re: Nesting None worked that great and are finicky. For the few jobs that I have that require nesting, I just draw the sheet in CADinsert my parts and manually nest them, save as dxf and import to SheetCAM for processing. I had these parts and tried always to fit 4 out of a sheet, didn't think it was possible until running it in mynest.

SheetCam had tools to move parts around on the bottom of the screen for flipping, rotating, and incremental movements. For multiples of parts that are squarish right click and array. If I did one part and ran it through the nesting program, it would lose one part per sheet because it wouldn't put a small enough gap in between parts due to shape.

If I recall correctly, manufacturing standard practice is 0. The problem was all the interior cuts cut first, and then the exterior cuts.

So editing G-Code was a must. Cut and Paste Exterior G-Codes in between interior parts. I did it this way, and it really helped me learn G-Code. The easiest way for many of the same part in the same orientation was a G90 code. I found that out about a year later.

If I had to do a different orientation to get an extra part in a rem, I would do a separate "part", create. In order for a toolpath to be generated each part of the drawing needs to be in a layer. Because we want to do different operations on the different elements of the drawing, we need to move them to different layers.

In order to move individual drawing elements to various layers, we need to place the drawing into contour mode as shown here.

Your drawing objects are now in separate layers. You group layers by what you want to do with them. For instance, we are going to create and outside toolpath for the teeth, and a inside toolpath on the shaft hole.

For this reason they need to be in separate layers. CNC Construction Set. KRmf70 CNC. All Products. Projects and Posts. Make Your Own AirExchanger. Building a Stepper Motor Tester. DIN Rail Madness. Xubuntu After updating, be sure to open and resave all your CommandCNC profiles in the configurator to update them and make them compatible with the new version of CommandCNC. The bit version installs a new system kernel and changes some options to fix issues with some computers. You must reboot the computer after installing this update if you are running the new bit OS!

Be sure to read the release notes below! It also includes HyTconnect improvements to clear error codes on the plasma cutter and re-init after power cycling the plasma cutter. CommandCNC 1. For GPL source code, see this page.

Did you define a toolpath? That would go between opening the drawing and running the post processor. Fired everything up, and my first cut! It aint purty, but it is a cut! Now to learn how to refine everything. It can be like trying to learn practical applications if calculus. Congrats on your first cut bud, nice to see your making progress. If you want to post the metal thickness, your cut speed and what tip your using I am sure we can figure out why your blowing those letters out.

It is a good start! Thanks for the help guys and encouragement. Here are my 4 attempts today, sequence, first 3 at speed of 75, last at Tried 35, 20,25,30 amps Tip is what came with the rw45, how can I tell the size? Material is. Here is the tool definition. I believe the tips I got with the RW were. I bought 1mm and. It looked like the simplest one with letters. I planned to design my own later once I saw how things worked. Post a screen cap of your Operation dialog.

I believe that is where your remaining problem is. Ya, it is a learning curve, taking it all in takes time and practice. If you have a large tip in with 16 ga material your going to burn a very wide kerf. If you want to run another test without changing your tip baby steps push your speed up to or ipm and see what you get. Basically your burning thin material with a tip made to burn thick material.

But remember the bigger the tip, the thicker the steel means less detail. Your doing well, just have fun with it. Thanks for the help, still trying… Loading new. I bought extra tips with origional shipment, can not find anything on web about size.

From what Im reading, should be ok for this small part, plan to upgrade to 11cfm or better once I get going.Quick links. Re: Can parts be rotated? Posts redirected from the Yahoo mailing list. I need to cut a bunch of triangular shapes, and would like to orient them so I don't waste too much material. After I use the "Array", I need to rotate every second part dgrees so that I have next to zero material waste. How do I rotate those parts? T: M: E: tony advanced-comms. I tried that nestingbut it doesn't have anything to rotate.

At the bottom right on the screen you have Pos X, Y and A all of which rotate the parts to some degree which you input. Thanks Tony; I never saw the "A" at the bottom.

Turn off 'snap to grid right click in main screen and you can nest to your hearts content. Of dantechfab Sent: 27 December To: sheetcam yahoogroups.

I need to cut a bunch of triangular shapes, and would like to orient them. I don't waste too much material. Or nest 1 row to the bottom of the sheet then import same part as new then rotate, place between, etc. Then nest another row from the second part, using the same offset spacing as the first row. There are several ways to get your sheet nested to minimise waste. Nesting parts is pretty simple once you understand how Sheetcam works. LOL I've got it figured out now. I will be cutting odd shaped parts, so it's nice to know I can place them where I want.

I knew the program could do it, but learning how these programs work is my downfall. My VCR is still flashing !! They allow continual rotation with out entering any commands in the boxes! It also will cut the outsides first so on small parts they drop into the water table before the inside details can be cut.

Where can I find these settings? On the lower left corner of the screen there are icons for the different operations cutting, milking, etc. Sheetcam does it by layer - and by default all your lines are in one layer. Before I do the cutting definition I put the lines on different layers so they can be different toolpaths.

I almost always have these layers: outline cut, large holes, small holes and lines. I can order them as I want. For large holes I have both. For the outline I move that to be last. I turn off the layer in the layers section of the left panel on the screen. Then when I go and define the cutting operations I pick the layer that I want the settings to apply to.

I usually run the simulation and if it all looks good I post for Mach 3. The problem I had the other day is I would create all of the layers for 1 part and nest the part where I wanted it, then create a new part, import a drawing, and establish the layers for that part. With great power comes great responsibility. In Fusion I have to setup separate paths. The reverse cut direction is in the Operations tab.

You select all your inside cuts first, create layer. Select outside cuts, create layer. Then in operations tab down in left corner, with that open you can select which layer you are programing.

So I do inside first, set your feedrate, choose your preset tool whats nice on this is you can select your tool right in operations and edit the pierce delay if needed etc, rather than going into a whole separate thing to edit your tool. You can set your cut direction, lead ins etc all within operations tab. Its really easy. Most times I have two layers. You can set rules also for small circles etc.SheetCam is our preferred CAM software solution for plasma cutting!
