If so, what program do you use I assume you're happy with it, if you're using it. Not really at a point where this is critical information, and at my level the cost savings in material due to efficient nesting wouldn't justify the expense of a commercial nesting program. I'm just thinking ahead, and mostly curious.

Re: Nesting None worked that great and are finicky. For the few jobs that I have that require nesting, I just draw the sheet in CADinsert my parts and manually nest them, save as dxf and import to SheetCAM for processing. I had these parts and tried always to fit 4 out of a sheet, didn't think it was possible until running it in mynest.

Did you define a toolpath? That would go between opening the drawing and running the post processor. Fired everything up, and my first cut! It aint purty, but it is a cut! I need to cut a bunch of triangular shapes, and would like to orient them so I don't waste too much material. At the bottom right on the screen you have Pos X, Y and A all of which rotate the parts to some degree which you input. Thanks Tony; I never saw the "A" at the bottom.

There are several ways to get your sheet nested to minimise waste. Nesting parts is pretty simple once you understand how Sheetcam works. LOL I've got it figured out now. I almost always have these layers: outline cut, large holes, small holes and lines. I can order them as I want. For large holes I have both. For the outline I move that to be last. I turn off the layer in the layers section of the left panel on the screen. Then when I go and define the cutting operations I pick the layer that I want the settings to apply to.

I usually run the simulation and if it all looks good I post for Mach 3. The problem I had the other day is I would create all of the layers for 1 part and nest the part where I wanted it, then create a new part, import a drawing, and establish the layers for that part. You select all your inside cuts first, create layer. Select outside cuts, create layer. Then in operations tab down in left corner, with that open you can select which layer you are programing.

So I do inside first, set your feedrate, choose your preset tool whats nice on this is you can select your tool right in operations and edit the pierce delay if needed etc, rather than going into a whole separate thing to edit your tool. You can set your cut direction, lead ins etc all within operations tab. Its really easy. Most times I have two layers.
